From athomer at umich.edu Wed Jun 26 18:13:49 2019 From: athomer at umich.edu (Andrea Thomer) Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2019 18:13:49 -0400 Subject: [Esip-datamodels] Data modeling activities at ESIP summer Message-ID: Hi all, I've unfortunately never actually been able to make any of the past ESIP sessions for this cluster, but wanted to send a note because Nic Weber and I have proposed as session that might be of interest. Session title: Conceptual modeling for earth science Time: Friday July 19, 10-11:30 Full description is here: https://2019esipsummermeeting.sched.com/event/PtU6/conceptual-modeling-for-earth-science In short, we think it's important to talk about the conceptual models behind metadata schemas, ontologies, etc - and are interested in building community and further scholarship around this work. We just ran a full day workshop on this topic at JCDL (papers here: https://github.com/sig-cm/JCDL2019) and were really pleased with some of the discussions that emerged. I was particularly glad to see a paper from some ESIP regulars, and we've love to see that trend continue. Our plan for the session isn't set in stone yet - so if anyone has any conceptual model-y work they'd like to present as a short talk, please let me know. Otherwise, I think we'll keep it pretty open to try to foster discussion. Hope to see everyone in a few weeks! -- Andrea Thomer Assistant Professor School of Information University of Michigan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
