Machine learning can help communities around the world understand, mitigate, and adapt to climate change. However, a lack of ground truth data limits the effective use of machine learning in low- and middle-income communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change. Solutions created by and for those communities are crucial to address the climate crisis globally. Lacuna Fund will help fill these gaps by providing funding to experts in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.<br>
<br>
With more accessible and open datasets for <strong>climate & energy</strong>, machine learning could help drive the transition to clean energy, optimize power systems, expand electricity access, and improve energy planning and climate modeling. In <strong>climate & health</strong>, machine learning models driven by local data could help us better understand the impacts of climate change on infectious and chronic disease, identify interventions to prepare for and mitigate climate harms to health, and help make resource allocation decisions.<br>

Lacuna Fund encourages proposals from partnerships of emerging and established researchers in low- and middle-income countries in Africa, Latin America, and South and Southeast Asia. To facilitate this process, we’re excited to partner with <a href="https://lacunafund.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dddad8b8bae8d900efc0fdbe4&id=e5dd7a5a9b&e=02f88acce7" style="color:#007c89;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline" target="_blank">Climate Change AI</a> (CCAI) to provide a digital partnership platform where teams or individuals seeking to collaborate can connect and find potential partners. CCAI will also facilitate a mentorship program to connect potential applicants with experts working in relevant topic areas.
