Sara et al.,

Yeah, I was on the fence re: the datasets. The reason is that many have two or more datasets, so you end up with multiple rows for an article. Of course, you can always “fill down”, but that seemed more confusing (and tedious).

(The full spreadsheet with datasets is actually in the companion tab.)

What does the rest of the cluster think?

Hi Chris,

Your instructions are clear. Would it help to include the dataset(s) each article references if that's available? These may provide more hints about the topics, especially if contributors are more familiar with the datasets.

A link to the blog post is here if anyone wants to comment on it. Chris, I added a section inviting readers to join us in this topic classification challenge. If you or anyone else from the cluster could review/comment, that would be great!

Subject: [Esip-discovery] Crowd-sourcing research article classification
Hi, Discoverers!

I have written up an “instruction sheet” for classifying research articles for the Usage-Based Discovery database. (This was one of the suggestions from the SM21 foraging workshop.) I have also put together a 7200-article repository (with dataset relationships) assembled from input from PO.DAAC, ORNL DAAC and LP DAAC.

Can Discovery cluster folks take 5-10 minutes to check out the instructions here: Help us Classify Research Articles for Usage-Based Discovery! - Federation of Earth Science Information Partners (esipfed.org)<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwiki.esipfed.org%2FHelp_us_Classify_Research_Articles_for_Usage-Based_Discovery!&data=04%7C01%7Cchristopher.s.lynnes%40nasa.gov%7C13d6515cc24a43ab236e08d96e3c3ce8%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C637662033936500505%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=hfDpIWPNP0HqRbRiU1uNyM0HWkJN4YGMzH3xtkwtUho%3D&reserved=0> and maybe try a classification or two in the Repo?

The article repo link is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OV615GKwPlQ5ti6bczGQPYGNslkNX9qvzqdLZvuoryo/edit?usp=sharing<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fspreadsheets%2Fd%2F1OV615GKwPlQ5ti6bczGQPYGNslkNX9qvzqdLZvuoryo%2Fedit%3Fusp%3Dsharing&data=04%7C01%7Cchristopher.s.lynnes%40nasa.gov%7C13d6515cc24a43ab236e08d96e3c3ce8%7C7005d45845be48ae8140d43da96dd17b%7C0%7C0%7C637662033936500505%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=roFE6%2Bj1%2BpDMPR2ZO2MGInwQeH0Bbcc%2F%2FSbli%2BZ0r0A%3D&reserved=0>

We would like to advertise the instruction sheet in Sara’s forthcoming blog, so if some of you could try the process out briefly in the next two days, that would be great!

(Note, we can add more relationships if folks have them available; it can be a living repository.)
