Hello,

NASA's Earth Science Data and Information Systems (ESDIS) Standards Coordination Office (ESCO) is requesting comments on the following proposed Atmospheric Composition Variable Standard Name Convention (ESDS-RFC-043). ESCO conducts reviews of proposed standards, practices, and technical information relevant to the ESDIS mission. Documents are reviewed as part of the ESDIS Project's standards process<https://earthdata.nasa.gov/user-resources/standards-process>. Approved documents are published and listed on the Standards Requirements and References<https://earthdata.nasa.gov/user-resources/standards-and-references> page.

Atmospheric Composition Variable Standard Name Convention (ESDS-RFC-043) describes a system for generating atmospheric composition standard names, including guidelines on how to generate a standard name, and lists of controlled variable names for use within the atmospheric composition standard name. The atmospheric composition variable standard names are constructed using four parts: measurement category, core name, acquisition method, and descriptive attributes. The system is intended to address limitations in existing standards.

You are invited to review the Atmospheric Composition Variable Standard Name Convention (ESDS-RFC-043) in the context of your experience. Your insights will help improve this document and determine whether it should be adopted as a Convention and published on the Standards Requirements and References<https://earthdata.nasa.gov/user-resources/standards-and-references> page.

The ESCO review will run through June 1st, 2022.

ESCO solicits comments from a cross section of the Earth Science community. Reviewers are invited to read the document and answer the questions provided on the review web page. The ESCO recognizes that not all reviewers will be familiar with all of the content of the document. Reviewers are welcome to review those parts of the document that they have experience with. You only need to answer questions applicable to you. Additional comments are welcome. If approved, this will be adopted as a Convention.

The document to review, the review questions, and the instructions for review are at ESCO Review - Atmospheric Composition Variable Standard Name<https://wiki.earthdata.nasa.gov/display/ESO/ESCO+Review+-+Atmospheric+Composition+Variable+Standard+Names>.

If you or your team member can review this document, please send names, email addresses, and Earthdata login usernames to esco-staff at lists.nasa.gov<mailto:esco-staff at lists.nasa.gov>. The ESCO Staff will add your names as reviewers in the Jama system. You may also send any questions about the review to the ESCO staff at esco-staff at lists.nasa.gov.<mailto:esco-staff at lists.nasa.gov>
