Dear ESIP Machine Learning Cluster,

How are you doing! Hope you are having a good summer time.

I want to bring to your attention the session we organized in GSA
2021 with the support from the GSA Geoinformatics and Data
Science division. I would like to invite you to submit abstracts
to the session for a oral talk. It is a wonderful opportunity to
promote your ML research in the geoscience community to inspire
and help address the impossibles in conventional geoscientific
studies.

Here is the session info:

T173. Machine Learning for Advancing Data Analysis Toolkit in
Geoscience

Recent breakthroughs in AI (artificial intelligence) have
provided unprecedented tools and approaches for enhancing the
predictive capability of geoscientific models. The benefits of AI
such as lower requirement on computing hours and resources,
representation of stochastic processes, and interpretation of
complicated workflows, are very promising to solve the grand
challenges in geosciences or enlighten the discovery of Earth
insights. The adoption of AI techniques in geosciences is
increasing but is still at its early stage. Geoscientists are
concerned about the interpretation, uncertainty, and costs of ML
(machine learning) models. To address these concerns, learning
about the off-the-shelf software and the existing best practices
are the best way to start. This session aims to bring together
community experiences on using ML in geoscientific research and
convey the knowledge learnt from successful use cases to inspire
GSA members to utilize ML as a new powerful tool to tackle
difficult questions in their specific domains. This session is in
great demand for geoscientists to surf on the giant AI wave that
is happening across all the spectrum of sciences.
