Hi Lewis,

I think your proposed solution may have some merit. The trick is getting the governance right. Something to discuss another time probably... there's a lot there.

Yes, I think however that we should keep it as an active and recurring theme in SemTech as we move forward. I did speak to Annie previously about ‘potentially’ getting some funding e.g. Labs project, to advance this concept. IMHO part of this effort is an initial exercise comprising gathering of stakeholder needs and requirements from such a system. We could then justify, to what extent an LDaaS system is needed and what for. I suspect that some aspect of IRI and resource governance will come up as part of this.

I'm doing a lot with hydrologic unit codes... are you talking about exposing them for use in linked data?

Yes

It's something we need to do but have some sticky issues to overcome first. (HUCs change more than you'd think and we've had a very hard time getting out from under the classical GIS web service style)

I did not know that they change. I do however empathize your position regarding ‘breaking out’ from the classical GIS web service style of doing things. Although it was not explicitly noted, this was probably the biggest positive outcome I interpreted from ELFIE.

Happy to throw ideas around more if you like. -- looks like I'm going to be working on some SWOT stuff as a Cloud Early Adopter, so maybe we can work on that stuff there.

Well, yes, I think we can work it there as well however linked data or indeed ELFIE/SELFIE concepts are not entirely understood by NASA early adopters’ effort yet. I firmly think that we need to lead this from within SemTech @ESIP, OGC ELFIE/SELFIE, etc. to demonstrate some level of community need and concept/technology maturity. I also think that this would make an excellent session for the summer meeting.

If there any way that this, specifically could be facilitated through SELFIE?
Thanks
Lewis
