<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">Hello All,

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">In the last few years we?ve witnessed a significant amount of work going on at ESIP in the realm of data semantics. We now have several parallel efforts all working away
at one part of the larger data semantics spectrum. In particular, there has been a growing interest in the Semantic Web for Earth and Environment (SWEET) ontology suite [0] and in working to make SWEET interoperate and align with other semantic data resources.
To my knowledge no duplication has been happening (which is great) but some structured organization may be in order.

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">The growth in community activity is now testing the SWEET community governance practices. One example concerns contributions (pull requests) which are held-up without
review or with insufficient peer review. This issue is compounded when some of these issues are somewhat blocking in nature such as the proposal to change the direction of SWEET as a compilation of textual definitions [2]. This really needs backing and community
governance for us to get it right.

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">In light of the above, I would like to open the discussion as to whether forming a dedicated ESIP Working Group or Cluster is a good idea. I have written to the ESIP Governance
Committee in a bid to determine the difference between a Working Group and Cluster and will update this thread once I know.

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">

<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New";color:black">I look forward to seeing people?s responses. If there is interest then we can move forward. I also want to remind people that we have a #sweetontology channel on the ESIP
Slack workspace.
