An update -

DigitalGlobe has found some imagery and searchers have launched a
crowdsourcing platform to scan the huge search area. The link to that
platform is below, should you want to participate.

Sorry for the multiple emails.

Anne

All, is there any chance the Nina had a COSPAS-SARSAT distress beacon?
Has anyone checked with COSPAS-SARSAT about whether distress signal from
the Tasman Sea has been received by the LEO satellites?

Dear Michael, Brian and Joe,

If we are indeed talking about the schooner Nina, I have been in contact
with some of the friends and family of the missing crew for the past
week. DigitalGlobe has tasked some imagery collects over the Tasman and
we are gathering more imagery right now. We have launched the Tomnod
crowdsourcing platform to engage the public's help in covering this huge
search area. If you would like to contribute -- or share with others who
would -- please go to:

If you have any better estimates of the likely drift area, feedback on
the crowdsourcing platform or other suggestions, please get in touch.

Last night I sent an email to Brett Thomassie at Digital Globe. He is
the Digital Globe rep for federal data systems, so perhaps Digital Globe
will be able to help.

Ken Keiser also contacted Burgess Howell who is the PI for the NASA
ISERV instrument on the Space Station.

Of course we don't know how things will turn out, but it is good to see
so many ESIP scientists motivated to help by trying to make connections.

Hi Joe,

Tomnod was Albert Lin's (CCed) platform (which he had originally
developed for the Valley of the Khans Project to crowdsource the search
for candidate Genghis Khan tomb sites): see
http://albertyuminlin.com/About.php) before it was acquired by Digital
Globe. Albert's team, whom he brought to Mongolia for the project, are
now managing Tomnod within DigitalGlobe. Albert has forwarded your
correspondence to his old team. Feel free to reach out to Albert, whose
contact information is provided below.
