A kick-off meeting for the first of the SEEDS Working Groups will be
held Thursday, January 8, 2003 at the Renaissance Orlando Hotel by the
Airport in Orlando, Florida. The working groups meeting that day are the
Standards Working Group, the Metrics Planning and Reporting Working
Group, the Technology Infusion Working Group, and the Reuse Working
Group. These groups came about as a result of an ESE-sponsored study,
the Strategic Evolution of Earth Science Enterprise Data Systems
(SEEDS), and were highlighted in the recent Research, Education, and
Applications Solutions Network (REASoN) solicitation. Information about
the study and its recommendations is available at
http://eos.nasa.gov/seeds. Information about the working groups and
their proposed charters will also be available via the above link.
Registration information is available from Kortney Stevens at Westover

The draft agenda is as follows:

8:30 Welcome, introductions, and logistics
8:45 Overview of the SEEDS Study
9:15 Data System Evolution and SEEDS from the ESE Perspective
9:45 Brief introduction by each working group lead
10:45 Break
10:30 Breakout sessions begin
12:00 working lunch
1:00 - 4:30 or 5 at the latest  Breakout sessions continue

Breakout sessions for each working group will cover at least the
following in some order:

Adoption of the working group's charter
Selection of co-chair
Adoption of rules of operation
Identification or prioritization of issues and/or work
Consideration of others who might be asked to join
Work plan for the remainder of FY03
Begin working on issues if it's deemed appropriate

If you are attending the collocated ESIP Federation meeting earlier in
the week, you may take advantage of a block of hotel rooms reserved for
