Description: 	Data are the lifeblood of science, yet stewarding data  
so that they are available and useful to users both today and in the  
future is an ongoing challenge due to the rapidly changing  
technological landscape and the increasingly interdisciplinary and  
collaborative nature of science itself. What are these challenges? How  
can they be met? How can today's solutions be made durable so that  
future users still can use the data acquired today? These topics are  
of broad interest to the Earth science community, and have received  
increasing attention recently with the formation of the Data  
Preservation and Stewardship Cluster within the Earth Science  
Information Partners (ESIP) Federation. This session is proposed to  
facilitate discussion of results of both formal investigations into  
and practical experiences with all aspects of data stewardship  
including data models, issues of data sharing, data identity,  
provenance, representation standards, preservation technologies,  
access to legacy data, and beyond.
