Dear Fellow Stakeholder in Earth and Environmental Observing,
In 2005, the intergovernmental Group on Earth Observations initiated a
ten-year plan to implement the Global Earth Observation System of Systems,
GEOSS. The vision for GEOSS is to realize a future wherein decisions and
actions for the benefit of humankind are informed by coordinated,
comprehensive and sustained Earth observations and information. This vision
is being realized through coordination and integration of Earth observing
and information system networks on a voluntary basis by Members and
Participating Organizations of GEO. GEOSS operates in nine societal benefit
areas (Agriculture, Biodiversity, Climate, Disasters, Ecosystems, Energy,
Health, Water, and Weather) and five building block areas (Architecture,
Data Management, Capacity Building, Science and Technology, and User
Engagement).

GEOSS implementation is half-way through the first 10-year plan and an
Evaluation Team has undertaken the task of developing the first progress
assessment. Direct feedback from the diverse stakeholder communities is
vital to the analysis because of the user oriented and voluntary nature of
GEO and GEOSS. In order to reach as broad a respondent pool as possible,
the Evaluation Team has developed an online survey to assess the impacts
that GEOSS has had on members of the Earth and environmental observation
community.
You have received this message because you have been identified by the
Evaluation Team or a colleague as a member of one of the many intended GEOSS
stakeholder and beneficiary communities and a potential survey respondent.
We invite you to contribute to the first evaluation of GEOSS by completing
the survey which can be found at the following link: GEOSS Evaluation Survey
<http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB22A7JHFECU4&source=esip> .
The survey is designed for all potential and actual stakeholders,
contributors and beneficiaries of GEOSS; prior experience with the Group on
Earth Observations and Global Earth Observation System of Systems is not a
requirement. We anticipate the survey should take an average of 20 minutes,
but may last longer depending on your previous involvement with GEO/GEOSS
and the depth of your responses. Please submit your responses as soon as
possible; the survey will close on or about March 30th.
As a voluntary group, the Evaluation Team is working with limited resources.
We would appreciate your taking the time to pass this invitation along to
any colleagues, mailing lists, or community networks that may be interested
in providing feedback as well.
Thank you,
The GEOSS Evaluation Team
We want to hear from you! If you know of research literature, white papers,
evaluations of GEOSS components or other items that could be helpful to the
team, or if you have any further questions please email
GEOSSEvaluation at datasurvey.org.
