Education Committee Telecon

Thursday, January 20th

The next ESIP Education Committee meeting is scheduled for 2 pm Eastern
time, Thursday, January 20. For new members and old, this is a chance to
reconnect with the education and outreach capabilities of the Federation.
Before there was an Education Committee, the Federation’s position on
education was that every ESIP had a responsibility to help educate their
data users on the science and the issues of current importance. This is more
true today than before. The Federation Education Committee is here to help
each Federation partner build more effective educational products and
services and to bring expert knowledge and networking support to a combined
effort.

If there is someone in your ESIP that could find the time to sit in on the
telecon, please pass this email on to them.

NOTE: the Climate Change Education Working Group will be having a discussion
at this telecon:

The Climate Change Education Working Group kicked off with excellent
presentations and a robust discussion in DC last week. You can read notes
and download presenter slides from the ESIP Wiki at

http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Climate_Education_Working_Group

Discussions to focus the CCEWG efforts will take place during regular ESIP
Ed telephone meetings.

A few areas likely to move forward are

1) A a proposal to NSF to engage and support ESIP scientists who can
review/vet climate education resources

2) Santa Fe (summer meeting location) case study to identify all local
partners as an example for other communities

3) Santa Fe Town Hall meeting with local decision makers

4) Educating politicians at ESIP winter meetings

Thanks
