Entry-Level SDPS Java Developer
 
Location:  Greenbelt, MD
 
Period of Performance: now through 12 to 16 months
 
U.S. citizenship is required.
All candidates must be able to pass a National Agency Clearance with
Inquires (NACI) screening
 
 
Job Description: 
 
This is an entry level software development position that supports a system
that ingests, distributes, and stores on-line earth science data. This
system is currently operational at 3 Data Centers.  This system runs on a
Linux platform and is implemented largely in Java and C++.  This position
requires the candidate to perform software sustaining engineering
maintenance on the current system including troubleshooting and bug fixes.
The candidate may also be responsible for software development and test of
additional enhancements to the current system.   The ideal candidate should
be a highly enthusiastic team member excited about learning new technologies
and continually evolving an operational system.
 
Required Skills: 

·        Bachelor¹s degree in a relevant subject.  Major in Computer
Science, Computer Engineering, or Mathematics.

·        Proficiency in JAVA in a Linux or Unix development environment.

·        Should be capable of working in all phases of the software
development life cycle, including requirements, design, code, and testing.

·        Should have good communication skills, and must be capable of
working in a structured team environment with other software engineers,
following standard software development processes consistent with CMM and
CMMI Level 3 and above.

Desired Skills: 

·        Related experience outside the classroom such as an internship or
summer job or related work experience.

·        Some experience with database applications such as Sybase.

·        Some experience with C++ and Perl.
