This is a Senior Level (SL) position located in the Immediate Office of
the Office of Environmental Information (OEI). The incumbent will report
to the Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator in OEI. The incumbent
will be responsible for providing technical direction for all aspects of
the Agency's utilization of geographic data and deployment of geospatial
technologies. The incumbent will serve as the Agency's technical liaison
and primary point of contact both internally and externally for
geographic data and technology issues. The incumbent works with the EPA
Chief Information Officer (CIO) and senior managers to ensure that EPA's
geographic information needs are addressed, to ensure appropriate use of
technology, and to facilitate access to needed data and information
sources. The Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) functions
collaboratively with the OEI directors and others who are responsible
for specific life-cycle phases of Geographic Information System (GIS)
and Information Technology (IT) projects. The GIO collaborates with
senior managers and experts Agency-and government-wide, actively
advocating and managing cross-organization program and business process
improvements which can be enabled and enhanced with geographic data and
analysis. The incumbent advises the EPA CIO and the Quality Information
Council concerning future directions and strategic decisions regarding
the use of geospatial information in EPA business processes and is
responsible for the conception, development and implementation of
policies, procedures, guidelines and standards for sound geospatial
business and investment practices to meet the mission needs of EPA.
