Dear Colleagues,

The following session has been accepted for the American Geophysical
Union meeting in San Francisco 2013 Dec 9-13. We welcome your
submissions at http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2013/ (deadline is Aug 6).
This is a merger of two sessions proposed by Lehnert, Klump, Privette,
and myself.

NUMBER: IN028

TITLE: Persistent Identifiers and Citation in Earth Science Information
Infrastructure

CONVENERS/AFFILIATIONS:
K.A. Lehnert, Columbia University, Palisades, NY
J. de la Beaujardiere, NESDIS, NOAA, Silver Spring, MD
J.F. Klump, Centre for GeoInformation Technology, GFZ German Research
Centre for Geosciences, Potsdam, GERMANY
A.C. Pinheiro Privette, NCDC/CICSNC, NOAA, Asheville, NC

DESCRIPTION:
Globally unique and persistent identifiers such as DOIs, ORCIDs, and
IGSNs are fundamental for reliable and reproducible Earth science.
Authors, investigators, publications, data sets, field campaigns,
stations, samples, and sensors need to be citable without ambiguity and
in perpetuity. This session invites contributions on implementation
experience and issues of persistent identifiers, guidelines for
assigning identifiers to large, complex, or ongoing datasets, semantic
linking capabilities between identifier systems, and related topics.
