 SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

*Minimum Qualifications:*
Bachelor's degree; at least 4 years of experience that is directly related
to the duties and responsibilities specified.

OR

Successful completion of at least 60 college-level credit hours; at least 6
years of experience that is directly related to the duties and
responsibilities specified.

*Preferred Qualifications:* The ideal candidate will have demonstrated
experience and knowledge in:

Developing user interfaces using HTML 5, including use of the canvas and
video elements, local storage, geolocation, microdata, and web sockets
Client-side scripting using Javascript and common open source libraries
such as JQuery, Backbone, D3, and Underscore
CSS design with consideration of responsive design for multiple display
devices and support for multiple media types including print and screen.
Demonstrated experience working with multiple web application server
environments including plain HTTP, servlets, and WSGI
The use of XML technologies including XPath, XML-Schema, and EXtensible
Stylesheet Language (XSLT)
Software development using one or more modern programming languages (e.g.,
Java, C , Python)
The object-oriented programming paradigm
Standards and protocols used in the development of distributed systems
applications
One or more software development life-cycle methodologies working in
distributed environments and in the use of collaboration tools

The programmer will participate in the development of the overall design of
system architecture, system implementation, and operations for the large
multi-institutional research and development network enterprise. In
particular, the individual will participate in the design and
implementation of web based user interfaces for DataONE applications, tools
and services using open source, standards compliant technologies and
techniques. This is a benefits eligible position. The University of New
