Hi list,

On Thursday, April 27, the LP DAAC will be giving a NASA Earthdata Webinar
about using R and Python to work with datasets such as ASTER, MODIS, and
VIIRS. Please see below for more information about the content of the
webinar and how to register.

Thanks,
Lindsey

*You have been invited to the NASA Earthdata Webinar "R You Ready to
Python? An Introduction to Working with Land Remote Sensing Data in R and
Python"*

Want to learn more about working with remote sensing data using R or
Python? This webinar will provide information and live demonstrations using
both of these freely available software programs to work with land remote
sensing datasets such as ASTER, VIIRS, and MODIS, which are archived at
NASA’s Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC).

During this webinar we will demonstrate how to bring remote sensing
datasets into R and Python, read metadata to georeference data, and export
the data in GeoTIFF format. Demonstrations for converting digital numbers
to Top of Atmosphere reflectance, calculating NDVI, generating three-band
RGB composites, and using quality services to filter MODIS data will be
performed. The webinar will also highlight useful operations such as
extracting a subset of data, computing statistics, plotting, and
visualizing the data in R and Python.

Audience: This webinar is geared towards users that are new to using Python
and R with remote sensing data.

Cole Krehbiel is a contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey where he is a
Remote Sensing Scientist with NASA's Land Processes Distributed Active
Archive Center (LP DAAC). Cole graduated from South Dakota State University
with B.S. degrees in GIS and Geography and an M.S. in Geography. His work
focuses on supporting LP DAAC products, tools, and services. His research
interests include image processing, phenology, and the application of GIS
and remote sensing for agriculture, meteorology, urban planning, and land
cover change.
