The Center for Data, Mathematical, and Computational Sciences at Goucher College invites applications for a tenure-track position with a focus in Data Science/Analytics. Candidates must have significant experience in Data Science/Analytics or actively engage in research that utilizes and develops advanced data analysis techniques. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Data Science/Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related fields which significantly emphasize data analysis techniques. These related fields could include Public Health, Bioinformatics, Environmental Science, and Geographic Information Systems. The teaching load is five courses per year.

The Center seeks colleagues who enjoy working in a diverse community of learners, and have a passion for pedagogical and curricular innovation within the liberal arts. Candidates will assist in growing a recently faculty-approved program in Integrative Data Analytics (IDA), and help further develop the College's Data Analytics graduation requirement. The IDA includes interdisciplinary specializations, which will give both the students and faculty opportunities to collaborate with other disciplines in classroom, internships and research projects. Candidates are encouraged to discuss potential collaborations across disciplines.

Ongoing scholarly research and service to the center and college are expected. Candidates must have a clearly articulated research program related to Data Science/Analytics which accommodates undergraduate research experiences in the liberal arts setting. We have support for research with undergraduates in an established summer program, as well as internal research grants. We also support other forms of professional development through travel grants and through our Center for the Advancement of Scholarship and Teaching. Following a successful third-year review, faculty are eligible for a pre-tenure research leave.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. by the start date of August, 2020; experience teaching introductory statistics or data courses at the undergraduate level; active data science research program.

Preferred candidates should have experience teaching calculus and linear algebra; a background in one of the following: economics, public health, computer science, environmental science, geographic information systems, or bioinformatics; experience working with a diverse population of students; experience with undergraduate research.
