Dear colleagues,

Please join the Wildfire Cluster on *04/12 (**Wednesday**) at 4 pm
EDT/UTC-4*. During the meeting this week, we are delighted to have two
guest presentations providing an overview of existing data products,
information services, and research initiatives from different NOAA line
offices related to wildfire preparation, management, and responses.

*NOAA Satellite Products and Services for Wildland Fire Management and
Research **(**Michael Pavolonis, NOAA/National Environmental Satellite,
Data, and Information Service) *

Mike Pavolonis serves as the NOAA National Environmental Satellite, Data,
and Information Service (NESDIS) Wildland Fire Program Manager. His
responsibilities include NOAA-wide and interagency coordination and
implementation of new initiatives aimed at delivering impactful products
and services for wildland fire applications. For the last 17 years, Mike
has worked for the NOAA/NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and
Research, where he also serves as the Aviation Science Team lead. Mike has
over 20 years of experience developing novel satellite products and holds a
Ph.D. and M.S. in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the University of
Wisconsin – Madison. He also obtained a B.S. in Meteorology from the
Pennsylvania State University.

*Facilitating the Transition of Science to Society in the Newly Established
NOAA Fire Weather Testbed **(**Daniel Nietfeld, NOAA/Global Systems
Laboratory)*

Daniel is the Chief of the Weather Informatics and Decision Support (WIDS)
Division at GSL. His background is rooted in integrating science (physical
science and social science) into operational meteorology. Prior to coming
to GSL in 2016, Daniel worked for 25 years in the National Weather Service
(NWS), including 15 years as a Science and Operations Office (SOO). As an
SOO, Daniel trained forecasters and infused cutting-edge research into
operational decision support, forecasting, and warning services. Between
his tenure as an SOO and coming to GSL, Daniel did two details, first at
the NWS Weather Prediction Center (WPC) as the Development and Training
Branch Chief and then with the NESDIS/GOES-R Program as the Deputy Team
Lead for Product Readiness and Operations. His background also includes a
number of leadership, policy, and training activities as well as
collaborations with academic, private, and international partners. Daniel
taught for 13 years as Adjunct Faculty at the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln and Creighton University, where he taught classes in
Mesoscale Meteorology, Severe Storms Meteorology, Radar Remote Sensing,
Satellite Remote Sensing, and NWP. He has a passion for understanding the
weather-related information needs of decision-makers and conducting O2R2O
to meet those needs through research, development, and operationalizing
relevant policies, tools, systems, and applications.
