Shared Imagery Hosting Across Government

The Interdepartmental Imagery Publishing Platform (IIPP) is a new,
state-of-the-art cloud-based geospatial imagery hosting platform that
replaces the Forest Service’s Geospatial Technology and Applications Center
(GTAC) Image Services platform that has been in operation for more than 20
years. IIPP is a cost-effective solution designed to be more scalable and
offer enhanced capabilities not previously possible. A key benefit of IIPP
is maximizing shared data and reducing data duplication across federal
agencies. IIPP currently hosts geospatial imagery datasets for the Forest
Service, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service (USFWS). More datasets will be added as additional agencies join
the platform. The IIPP is the result of a collaboration between the Forest
Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), USGS, USFWS, U.S.
Department of Interior (DOI), and GeoPlatform.gov.

With degrees in natural resources, but a passion for technology and
mapping, John has spent much of his career contracted with the U.S. Forest
Service’s Geospatial Technology and Applications Center. From roles as a
remote sensing analyst to GIS developer to senior project manager and now
principal investigator, he’s seen plenty of fun challenges, but none more
rewarding than this latest effort he’s been leading towards an
all-government, shared imagery hosting system, that he’ll be presenting
today, known as the new Interdepartmental Imagery Publication Platform.
