[ESIP-AQ] Air Quality Community Metadata Record - ISO 19115-1 Updates | Move toward a controlled vocabulary | Call tomorrow 10 am ET

Hello AQ Community -

With this email (and recent discussion with Rudy), I'm hoping re-energize
the AQ common metadata record work in advance of the next group meeting in
Dublin in Sept and GEIA Toulouse meeting in June.

As many of you know, ISO 19115 is going through some updates from ISO
19115-2 to 19115-1, described on the NOAA geo-ide
wiki<https://geo-ide.noaa.gov/wiki/index.php?title=ISO_19115-1_New_Capabilities>.
Along
with the ISO updates, our AQ record had taken an initial approach to
keywords that wasn't controlled or extensible and didn't leverage the ISO
19115 standard. I have attempted to update our record to -1 and start
migrating our internal names to thesauri by updating the syntactic
framework (in prep for community decided vocabulary) and where possible
unburdened keywords and moved terms to their proper places in the standard,
allowing for other standard search facilities to leverage our metadata.

this topic is of interest the update details are below and we are having a
call tomorrow, 10 am ET, to talk more specifically and practically about

== AQ Community Record Update ==
We have run the xsl on the AQ Community Catalog records (zip file of
updated records<https://www.dropbox.com/s/muppjflngqx3w7c/ISO%2019115-1.zip>),
so that we can work in parallel with Rudy/Kari on the uFIND interface and
Stefano/Lorenzo/Enrico on getting the metadata records harvested into
GI-Cat. Running the xsl also means that many of you can see what the
updated metadata means for your data. Next steps include:

- replacing AQ ISOs in the AQ CoP WAF and having GCat catalog re-harvest...
GCat then submits the AQ ISOs to GEO or any other Super Catalog
- We then retrieve the AQ ISOs from GCat to the AQ Community Catalog
..using GCat's service interface (?!)
- The entire metadata flow is then updated by routine harvesting procedure
- Metadata records are updated by providers to include links to projects,
datasets, platforms etc.
- continue to build documentation (GEO AIP

which
will be helpful for the formal publication of the process by which the AQ
discovery ISOs were developed.

The outcome will be
- more complete ISOs.. with formal AQ Domain keywords and linkages to
projects, programs, platforms.
- these ISOs could be extended by the AQ Domain metadata as
developed/agreed at the Sept Dublin meta meeting (Martin & Leonor)  and at
the June Toulouse GEIA emissions meeting
- after all these steps (and years) the AQ CoP could formally declare
the AQ discovery (and to some extent usage) ISO's to be 'done' for
now; publish it, describe it, set up governance, maintain it... as a key
activity of the AQ CoP.
