2025 January ESIP Meeting Session ProposaI
Please fill out the following form to propose a session for the 2025
January ESIP Meeting (Online; January 21-24). *Session proposals should be
submitted by 11:59 p.m. PT on November 14.* Notification of acceptance will
be shared on or around November 22.
Submitted sessions will be reviewed based on the quality and completeness
of the proposal, as well as relevance to ESIP areas of interest and to the
2025 year theme: *Innovation to Impact*.
*Provide as complete a session proposal as you can, including speaker
names.* Submission of a session proposal does not guarantee that the
session will be accepted. You will have a chance to update your proposal to
include more details.
*For this meeting, we are primarily focusing on 90-minute sessions.* We
encourage session leaders to concentrate on designing these high-quality,
90-minute sessions. A handful of 150-minute sessions, as well as 60-minute
sessions may also be available by invitation-only based on quality of
proposal, anticipated interest, and time available in the schedule.

Session Title *
Air Quality Information -- Innovations and Impacts
Session Description *
Please describe your session and what you plan to do with as much
specificity as possible.
We will review recent advances in air quality sensing and modeling
including satellites and low-cost sensors. We'll examine two use cases: 1)
Using wildfire AQ data to avoid smoke exposures and 2) Putting AQ data to
work to protect underserved communities. We will point participants to a
draft action model and AQ information resources and solicit feedback.
Connection to ESIP’s Theme
*
How does your session fit within the Innovation to Impact annual theme?
We aim to squarely address how innovations in AQ sensing and information
dissemination are enabling concrete impacts on human health.
Session Participants *
Think about the different types of participants who can benefit from and/or
contribute to your session. List the groups you want to invite to your
session.
EPA, NASA, underserved community representatives
Value of Session to Organizer(s)
*
What do the session organizers want to get from this session? If this
session involves an existing collaboration, such as an ESIP Cluster or
Committee, please describe the value to the broader ESIP community.
We hope to collect feedback and ideas from participants and explore greater
synergy with other ESIP Clusters and Committees such as Envirosensing,
Wildfire, and DEI
Value of Session to Participants *
What do you imagine your target participants will want to take away from
this session?
We hope participants will learn more about AQ data and feel inspired to
pursue ways to harness the data for real-world human health impacts.
Speaker Information
When selecting speakers, we urge you to take into account the multiple
dimensions of diversity (e.g., gender, race, career stage, organization,
sector, etc.)
Note also that ESIP Meeting feedback has consistently told us that
attendees prefer time for discussion and Q&A within each session, rather
than many back-to-back presentations. It gives them time to give input and
to make sense of what they have learned. To accommodate more speakers, you
can also use a "lightning talk" format of much shorter length, but it is
not advisable to have more than 6 speakers in a 90 min session.
How many presentations do you plan to include in this session?
*
1-3 speakers
4-6 speakers
More than 6 speakers

Presenter Information *
For each presenter, please include the following information: name, email,
if confirmed [Y/N], a short phrase capturing the key topic/perspective/etc.
they will represent, and whether they are planning to attend the meeting
in-person or not.
If you are still looking for a speaker to represent a key
topic/perspective/etc. for your session, hold the speaker's place with
"unidentified speaker" and describe the the key topic/perspective/etc. that
you are looking to include.

latest status of their AQ efforts Magali Sanchez-Hall and Amy Quarkume --
low-cost sensors and underserved communities (not yet confirmed)
Additional Session Details
The following helps us better understand the session format and potential
support you might need.
Length of Time/Duration
Most sessions are 90-minute sessions. However, a few 60- and 150-minute
sessions will be offered based on balancing needs with available slots.
If you are requesting a shorter or longer session, tell us which one and
why you need less or more than 90-minutes
90
Session Level *
What level of knowledge or experience with the subject will participants
need in order to fully participate in your session?
No prior knowledge or experience - the session skims the surface or is an
introduction
Some prior knowledge – the session will jump right into an intermediate
level
✓
Some prior knowledge AND a quick review of supporting materials before the
session will be a sufficient orientation for novices to feel more
comfortable in the session
In-depth knowledge but all skill levels are welcome to join in
Cluster work session – familiarity with a cluster's work and tasks required
Recommended Ways for Participants to Prepare
How might participants prepare for your session, if they are new to a topic
or the session build upon past work? This could be a link to a webinar,
presentation, papers, or previous ESIP session videos. This could also
include the discussion topics and questions participants will be invited to
explore.
Participants will be encouraged to review the recording of the 2024 Summer
Meeting AQ session and additional resources to be provided

We hope to mention Amy Quarkume's progress with her Funding Friday project
Do you have any suggestions of potential plenary speakers in line with the
meeting theme of Innovation to Impact?
Not at this time
All session organizers are strongly encouraged to attend the session design
training workshop that will be held. If your session is accepted, would you
also be interested in a one-on-one design consultation with our expert
Charley Haley?
*
Session design training and consultation is a key way that ESIP helps
session organizers make the most of their sessions.
In workshops, you learn creative ways to engage and interact with your
session's participants. Design consultations are one-to-one meetings with
our session design expert where you and your co-organizers align around
goals and best ways to tap into the experience of your participants.
Yes, I am.
I'm not sure at this time.
✓
No, I'll learn what I can at the Session Design Workshop.
Have you organized an ESIP Meeting Session before? *
This information will be used to think about session design support, not as
a factor in session acceptance.
