Hello again,

A lot going on in the citation world. I highly recommend the following resources in preparation for winter meeting if not tomorrow.

Stuart, David. 2017. “Data bibliometrics: metrics before norms.” Online Information Review 41 (3): 428--35. https://doi.org/10.1108/oir-01-2017-0008.
A cautionary tale of how data citation is done, especially for data journals.

Kai Li, Pei-Ying Chen, Erjia Yan. 2018. “Challenges of Measuring the Impact of Software: An Examination of the Lme4 R Package.” Arxiv Preprint https://arxiv.org/pdf/1811.11270.pdf.
An interesting case-study of how software is actually cited and discussion of the different “proxy objects” that serve for s/w citation. People still prefer to cite papers.

Freya Project report on PID Resolution Services Best Practices https://www.project-freya.eu/en/deliverables/freya_d2-1.pdf
This is very relevant to our landing page discussions

Update from Force11 Software Citation Implementation Group https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqmzPItNYUc
They seem to have hit the same fork in the road we have and want to go back to basic questions. I hope we’ll have an update at winter meeting.

cheers,

-m.
