This is a friendly reminder that our monthly meeting is scheduled for next week (April 13) at 4:00 ET. As the new shepherd of the group, I would like to suggest that we focus (for a while) on Persistent identifier systems as they will be an important concept
in Artifact Citation going forward. I will bring what I have learned and hope to hear what you have learned and what you think still needs to be considered so that every research artifact can be properly cited!</div>

Recently, I have been focusing on persistent identifier systems. There are many. The Library of Congress maintains a list <a href="https://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/identifiers.html" target="_blank">Standard Identifiers - LC Linked Data Service: Authorities and
Vocabularies | Library of Congress (loc.gov)</a>. It <span style="display:inline; color:rgb(0,0,0); background-color:rgb(255,255,255)">
was last updated in 2020 and </span>does not contain all of the systems relevant to science. I was thinking of suggesting a review of these systems a the upcoming meeting of the Research Artifact Citation group. It would be useful to identify where there is
duplication and where there are holes. </div>

<div>I am co-PI of a recent NSF Research Coordination Network (RCN) grant focused on PIDs for facilities and instruments. We are still in early phases, but are planning to dig into the benefits and drawbacks of using RRIDs vs DOIs for instruments and facilities.
