Hi all,

Though we have a Community Data Cluster meeting scheduled for today, we've
decided to cancel in solidarity with the #ShutDownSTEM #ShutDownAcademia
#Strike4BlackLives movements. This was started by two astronomers, Chanda
Prescod-Weinstein and Brian Nord, and meant to highlight the racism in
academia, and the massive underrepresentation of black scholars in
academia. You can read more here:

https://www.particlesforjustice.org/

For my day of action, in lieu of project meetings, I'm:
- auditing my syllabi to make sure I'm meeting my own goals of including
scholars of color and anti-racist themes, following the model used by Klein
and D'Ignazio in their recent *Data Feminism* book
https://data-feminism.mitpress.mit.edu/pub/3hxh4l8o/release/1
- revising my lab and classroom policies to include more anti-racist
language and making sure I have *actionable* reporting options for bias
incidents (this is easier said than done, of course, because university
admin is a maze)
- finally reading some of the stack of literature that I've accumulated
related to race in technology -- specificaly Ruha Benjamin's *Race After
Technology*!

If you'e interested in taking action today, the links above provide lots of
ideas and resources!

ESIP, thanks for your support in cancelling this meeting. Steve and I do
have a session planned for ESIP summer - we'll be in touch to the Community
Data list soon with more details.

Andrea
