Hi COPDESS -

I am co-convening a session at the 2024 AGU Fall Meeting with Reyna
Jenkins, WDS, and John Chodacki, CDL, entitled "IN019: Curating and
Interconnecting Persistent Identifiers for Better Research and Funder
Mandates" (full abstract below). This session is well-aligned with the Fall
Meeting theme <https://www.agu.org/annual-meeting/present>, 'What's Next
for Science,' which highlights the importance of making research more
accessible, interoperable, and impactful.

Please consider submitting an abstract by July 31 or sharing it with your
colleagues. Many on this list would make great contributions to this topic.
For details and to submit an abstract to this session, click here
<https://agu.confex.com/agu/agu24/prelim.cgi/Session/226049>. We are also
still considering invited speaker invitations; if you have an idea, let us
know.

Thanks for considering this session -

Erin

*Full abstract:
identifiers (PIDs) are not only fundamental to many aspects of the FAIR
Principles, but they enable traceability and credit of research objects for
services that leverage PID metadata and relationships. Implications for
research are immense, with applications such as metrics, research
assessment reforms, and scientific reproducibility. Evidence-based policy
and decision-making also benefit. National PID strategies and funder
mandates emphasize the importance, while initiatives like the Global Data
Citation Corpus from Make Data Count and the Joint Statement on Research
Data from STM, Crossref, and DataCite illustrate how multi-stakeholder
interconnections between persistent identifiers can be leveraged. As PID
registries enhance their services and schemas, repositories are expected to
provide more comprehensive metadata and apply PIDs to more research objects
(such as IGSNs for samples). We invite submissions that demonstrate
implementations or applications of persistent identifiers for research
objects, particularly in alignment with the aims of these mandates,
initiatives, and enhancements.
