Recent Advancements in Earth Science Data Discovery and Metadata Stewardship Practices<https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm20/prelim.cgi/Session/104041>
Methods to improve data discoverability have become increasingly important as new datasets proliferate in the Earth sciences. One of the cornerstones of data discoverability is metadata, especially metadata that is of high quality (correct, complete, consistent), as high-quality metadata is most effective when leveraged in data discovery interfaces and tools. The goal of this session is to explore innovative efforts to improve Earth science data discoverability. This could include metadata stewardship tools or processes, controlled vocabularies and ontologies or collaborative/crowd-sourced metadata creation and maintenance. The path to data discovery can have many different sources whether it be a specialized data discovery portal, broader search engines like Google’s Dataset Search, a research article, or even a blog post. Stewardship and management practices that help connect users to data are welcomed. Aspects of these practices that help improve data accessibility and usability will also be explored.
