Hello Documentation Cluster,
We had a small meeting yesterday after ironing out a couple of problems with the WebEx (my mistake, sorry about that). I am charged with starting the WebEx in the future and the connection information will be different than in the past… Pay attention when the next announcement comes out…
There were two items on the agenda: the Documentation Cluster Strategic Plan and sessions for the winter meeting.
The Documentation Cluster Strategic Plan is a document that helps us make plans for the next year and to connect those plans to ESIP. Ed and I will work on it with the goal of getting it out prior to the winter meeting and we will try to schedule ~45 min to discuss it there.
We have three winter meeting sessions in mind:
Metadata Augmentation (Ted) – processes that can be used to change the metadata in a file usually in a way to make it compliant with a set of conventions not supported in the original file. This approach is well known in the THREDDS community where it can be used to help make files compliant with CF or ACDD. There are similar needs in archives that have HDF-EOS compliant data. I would hope to feature a discussion of different approaches to this task.
Granule Discovery and Services (Ed) – many groups are moving beyond directory or collection searches to support discovery of granules. Many of these searches are using CSW or other services. Well known examples include ECHO, NODC, and PO.DAAC. These efforts are mature enough to share lessons learned etc. and that is the goal of this session.
DOIs and ISO (NOAA) – several groups are hoping to take advantage of the benefits of DOIs in their metadata records and management systems. This session will include reports on DOI progress by several groups in NOAA and …?
Ideas or speakers that contribute to these sessions would be great. We could also consider other suggestions, but they may need organizers. Of course, time is getting limited…
Plan is to hold the next meeting Dec. 18 and finalize winter meeting plans.
Ted
