Hi all –
I’ve been sick since last weekend, sorry for not getting an email out sooner about next week’s meeting. Looks like the listserve has been active with some good discussions this month!
Let’s plan on discussing the Martin’s question on ACDD licensing and Nan’s questions about NetCDF and THREDDS roundtable style. (Original questions below)
I’ll plan on bumping the relevant email threads to the top of your inboxes Monday morning. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the conversations so far.
As always the telecon is at 12 pm Mountain time and you can dial in or join from your computer.
Hope to see you there!
Sean

Here are the initial questions:
Hello all
I'm a contributor of the Apache Spatial Information System (SIS) project [1] from the Apache Software Foundation. The project implements the "Attribute Convention for Data Discovery (ACDD)" [2] specification from ESIP in our netCDF file reader. For making maintenance easier, SIS reproduces part of ACDD documentation in its own documentation. However the bottom of ESIP wiki page said that the content is licensed under GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) 1.2, which would imply that it can not be included in Apache projects. After a short discussion on Apache Legal [3], we wanted to ask a few questions:
· Is ESIP fine with an Apache licensed implementation of the ACDD specification?
· How much of the documentation can be copied to assist with the implementation?
· Is the ACDD specification under GFDL license, or only the wiki site?
Thanks,
Martin
Hi ESIP, NetCDF, and THREDDS folks -
First, I'm sorry for the cross posting. I have a hard time figuring
out which NetCDF list does what; there are 'best practices' threads
on several lists, interspersed with install and development threads.
The OceanSITES project would like to find the most useful way to
provide a link within a NetCDF file to an external dataset.
> Another piece I am missing ... is an optional field, that link to a
> data DOI. Why? Here's an example: We operate an OceanSITES site off
> the Cape Verdes and the sediment trap data is ... not included in an
> netcdf file but processed and stored elsewhere
> https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.863969
Does THREDDS have a standard way to provide links to related or
co-located data? Is this something we discussed as part of ESIP's
ACDD recommendations? I've been searching through my store
of old messages, and haven't come up with anything.
Thanks very much for any advice on this!
- Nan Galbraith
