Hello all,

My colleagues and I are excited to chair the drone-focused AGU fall meeting session Advances in uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) use for Earth and planetary observation. The session will focus on new methodologies enabled by uncrewed aerial vehicles in multiple domains. We had a diverse set of submissions which described new tooling and workflows to manage UAV science, in domains as diverse as ecology, munitions remediation, and planetary science.

The session generated a ton of interest, and there will be 8 oral presentations and no fewer than 26 poster presentations. The posters (session EP11C<https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/meetingapp.cgi/Session/83210>) will be 8-12:20 am on Monday, December 9, and oral presentations (EP13A<https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm19/meetingapp.cgi/Session/90490>) will be that afternoon from 1:40-3:40 pm. The ESIP Drone Cluster’s own Lindsay Barbieri will be giving an invited lecture!

We need members of the community to sign up as “Outstanding Student Presentation Award” judges for poster and oral presentations. Many of the people making strides in this domain are students, and they deserve recognition for exceptional contributions. Three students in our oral session<https://ospa.agu.org/2019/ospa/find-presentations/?sid=EP13A&l=%252F2019%252Fospa%252Ffind-presentations%252F&ospa_search_session_id=1&simian_search=1&ospa_search_session_id_paged=1&tab=needed> and five in the poster session<https://ospa.agu.org/2019/ospa/find-presentations/?sid=EP11C&l=%252F2019%252Fospa%252Ffind-presentations%252F&ospa_search_session_id=1&simian_search=1&ospa_search_session_id_paged=1&tab=needed> are participating in the award competition and need judges to evaluate their material. This rewarding program gives you a chance to provide valuable feedback to students on scientific skills and presentation topics, and students appreciate hearing from researchers outside of their orbit. I strongly encourage you to volunteer.
Steps to be an OSPA Judge:

  * Register on the OSPA portal<https://ospa.agu.org/2019/> and agree to the program Honor Code.
  * Sign up for at least three student presentations, searching by session or using these links: poster presentations<https://ospa.agu.org/2019/ospa/find-presentations/?sid=EP11C&l=%252F2019%252Fospa%252Ffind-presentations%252F&ospa_search_session_id=1&simian_search=1&ospa_search_session_id_paged=1&tab=needed>, oral presentations<https://ospa.agu.org/2019/ospa/find-presentations/?sid=EP13A&l=%252F2019%252Fospa%252Ffind-presentations%252F&ospa_search_session_id=1&simian_search=1&ospa_search_session_id_paged=1&tab=needed>
  * Evaluate all presentations you signed up to judge.
  * Submit scores no later than Friday, 20 December at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Thanks for your participation, and I hope to see you there!
Best,
