NASA wants us to get our Earth Science Collaboratory Working Group up and going in the next two weeks. As you may recall from our discussions, and can see on the ESC proposal page (http://earthdata.nasa.gov/wiki/main/index.php/Earth_Science_Collaboratory) the main two goals we are shooting for are:
(1) Develop a Reference Architecture for the ESC and
(2) Develop processes by which to integrate components into an eventual ESC.

What we need to do is finalize the Action Plan on the wiki so we can begin moving forward.

We may also want to flesh out the plan a little more.

Here's an idea to start with on the RefArch:
Step 1: begin by defining an outline for the Ref. Arch., including key diagrams needed
Step 2: discuss major themes running through the RefArch
Step 3: break up writing assignments
Step 4: write / draw
Step 5: break up reviewing assignments
Step 6: review / revise

I don't have an equivalent idea on the second objective. I think we need to see what comes out of the ecosystem discussion at ESIP next week.

Incidentally, I have the NASA ESDSWG members on the To: line, but have added ESIP Collaboratory on the cc:. As far as I am concerned, non-ESDSWG ESIP members are welcome to participate in either writing and (especially) reviewing; but the NASA folks will ultimately be responsible for deliverables back to NASA program management.

Comments, questions?
