Dear EnviroSensors,
Three items:
(1) This is the usual reminder for our monthly Cluster call next week, Tuesday, 3 August, at 2p Pacific / 5p Eastern. Our Summer Meeting session went great - if you weren't there, you missed some great talks by senior researchers and students alike. See agenda and coordinates below.
(2) My esteemed colleague and Cluster co-chair Renée Brown is stepping back from the co-chair position to focus on the final stretches of her dissertation and work. Renée was part of the original EnviroSensing working group that came to ESIP out of the LTER ecosystem, and has remained a key contributor the entire time (I want to say that next year it will be 10 years?). It has been an absolute pleasure serving with her as co-chair, and I am very happy to see her taking the next steps in her research career. Go Renée!
(3) As Renée steps back, Joseph Bell and I will be joined by Dr. Martha Apple from Biological Sciences at Montana Tech as co-chair. Martha has been working on various Cluster-related initiatives in distributed sensor R&D, as most of you probably know, and her work in alpine treeline and subalpine biology in North America is well known in the mountain climate community. We welcome Martha to the co-chair team, and are looking forward to keeping Cluster facilitation moving!
Call next week:
One thing that we were not able to do in the Session was to open the floor for longer Q&A. We're going to take the opportunity of this monthly call to open up the time for discussion on technology/practices for the topics presented (large collaborative project data management, private/public R&D partnerships, GCAToolbox, low-cost sensing, open hardware).
Agenda:
Welcome & Introductions - 5min
ESIP announcements and updates - 5min
General discussion, Summer Meeting topics - 30 min
Member project updates (if any) - 10 min
