Much of the new sensing capabilities our ESIP Clusters have been discussing rely on inexpensive Internet of Things (IoT) devices, yet most of these inexpensive IoT solutions have components manufactured in China. Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 52.204-24, creates a roadblock for Federal Agencies buying these devices, as most are manufactured within China. While this became a roadblock for several of our USDA research projects, our team has been able to take this roadblock and combine it with the implementation difficulties discussed in ESIP Cluster calls to create a FAR 52.204-24 compliant foundational sensing capability that is affordable and more easily field customizable for Environmental Sensing Applications. We will use some slides to help create an informal discussion within our cluster call, gathering the cluster participants' thoughts to help us review our progress thus far.
