Hello DMAC Community,
This month's IOOS DMAC Tech webinar on *Thursday, January 30th at 3pm EST*
will feature guest speaker Jerad King from the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean
Observing System (GCOOS) for a webinar titled "*Erddap2agol: Bridging Data
Services and WebGIS for the Next Generation of Marine Science*".
We encourage DMAC representatives from the RAs and the marine data
community to attend this webinar to learn more about GCOOS' development of
a robust tool for reliably transferring datasets between ERDDAP™ services
and ArcGIS Online (AGOL). Erddap2agol (https://github.com/GCOOS/erddap2agol)
is a "hands-off" Python package designed to operate seamlessly within the
AGOL environment. Its core functionalities include creating, managing, and
updating ERDDAP™ datasets at various levels of granularity.
*Abstract:*
ERDDAP™ is a powerful platform that serves an important role in hosting and
distributing quality metrological and oceanographic data to users. Using
ERDDAP™ can be challenging for new users, however, due to a cumbersome user
interface that can only be circumvented with RESTful web services.
Additionally, ERDDAP™ lacks native integration with contemporary GIS
platforms. In contrast, ArcGIS online provides a user-friendly experience
to not only access and store data but perform analysis with a host of
services. Finding quality data on ArcGIS Online can be challenging,
however, as the technical barrier to publishing data is comparatively lower
than ERDDAP™ .
We seek to rectify this problem with the development of erddap2agol
<https://github.com/GCOOS/erddap2agol>, a python-based data service for
creating, managing, and updating ERDDAP™ data on ArcGIS Online. This
session will demonstrate the simple process of using erddap2agol to create
real-time datasets from live ERDDAP™ services, and how to leverage
visualization tools in the ArcGIS Online ecosystem for analysis.
*Please note, we have moved our meeting platform to Webex.* Please see the
