Research software in an era of open science
Peter Kalverla, Research software engineer at Netherlands eScience Center
www.esciencecenter.nl<http://www.esciencecenter.nl/>
Description: Sustainable research software is crucial for an efficient, transparent, and reproducible scientific process. Using five examples, I will show how research software fits into a landscape of open scholarship and how best practices around data and software can help to make the most out of your code, whether it is a complex earth system model or a simple Jupyter notebook.
Peter's bio<https://www.esciencecenter.nl/team/peter-kalverla/>: Peter joined the Netherlands eScience Center in 2019 to develop his software engineering skills, learn about digital technologies, and contribute to open science. Peter has a background in meteorology. Pursuing his interest in the natural environment, he initially enrolled in a broad BSc programme on “soil, water, and atmosphere” and later specialized in the latter. This interdisciplinary background proves very useful in his current position as RSE in the Environment and Sustainability section, where he has led several projects revolving around geospatial problems. Peter is very passionate about open science and collaborative research software development. Engineering-wise, he is particularly interested in software solutions that enable a more accessible and transparent research process.
