Greetings everyone! We had a great conversation today on the EDIJ Advirsory Committee and talking through bad vs good collaborations that we have experienced as a group.
Kathe and Megan attended the latest EDIJ Committee meeting and noticed some tensions in the group around big external vs small internal focus, the need for baseline EDIJ data but a lack of clarity on what specifically to structure the data collection around, a desire to support a more diverse participate pool via targeted scholarship/funding, and a lack of clarity on when a decision was being made in the group or how to on-board new participation.
We then talked through some of our own experiences with good vs bad collaborations and identified the following themes: curious respectful communications to build supportive/strong relationships, measurable small milestones with clear attribution and accountability, flexibility to rescope those milestones as new conditions arise, and understanding individuals motivations, limitations, and contributions within a collaboration.
Kathe has drafted a proposed collaboration dimension that we can start to tie practices to for the group moving forward. You can see the notes from today’s meeting and a draft of the collaboration dimensions (please make edits in suggestion mode!) that we will discuss next meeting on July 10th https://docs.google.com/document/d/13F3pkYvpCiaBbxVc1_b1qh0GSFEzkx1PlRIpdlGgoEM/edit?usp=sharing.
See you then!
