Hello, everyone:
If you were able to attend the Data Stewardship Committee meeting last week
or listened to / read the meeting notes, you might remember that the launch
of the Data Management Training (DMT) Clearinghouse was imminent. This
week, the site is live at http://dmtclearinghouse.esipfed.org - come check
it out! All the functionality is available to the public including the
Search, Browse, and documentation pages (Help and About). At this point,
submission of content to the inventory of data management training resources
is available to those with an ESIP account, but those who do not have such
an account can register to get one, and then submit information about
resources upon login. We are anticipating that this crowdsourcing
mechanism will help us grow and sustain the inventory of resources in the
DMT Clearinghouse.
Speaking of submission and crowdsourcing, we invite any of the authors or
reviewers of the ESIP Data Management Short Course for Scientists modules to
submit information about the modules they created or reviewed to the DMT
Clearinghouse. Most of the information needed for the Submission form is
available from the information that already appears on the ESIP Commons at
http://commons.esipfed.org/datamanagementshortcourse or on the slides
themselves that are available at the URL for each module. Not only would
your help be greatly appreciated in adding to the inventory, but would also
provide us with more feedback on your experience as a user and help us
improve the interface and functionality of the registry, should you be
willing to do so.
So, please try the site, submit content, send feedback, pass on the word to
your friends and colleagues, and suggest other resources that could be
added. In the near future, we will also be soliciting (volunteer) reviewers
and editors for the submitted information as well, so let us know if you're
interested either to me nhoebel at kmotifs.com or to
clearinghouseEd at esipfed.org. Thanks!
Special thanks to Sophie Hou, David Bassendine, Tamar Norkin, Amber Budden,
JC Nelson, Erin Robinson, and John Faundeen for their assistance and
commitment to this effort as well as to the USGS Community for Data
Integration for its seed funding.
Regards,
Nancy
