Hello all,
Passing along three possible sessions of interest at the Ocean Sciences Meeting next week in Portland. All are part of the "AGU Data Fair.” Please let me know if you have any questions. Not positive who the panelists will be yet, but I am sure the list will include more than a few ESIP folks!

AGU Data Fair: Author and Reviewer Data Management Best Practices <https://agu.confex.com/agu/os18/meetingapp.cgi/Session/36401>
Tuesday, 13 February
12:45 PM – 1:45 PM
Oregon Convention Center – E141-E142
Funders, publishers, and researchers have embraced open data as being important for research integrity and reproducibility, but the processes and infrastructure have only slowly begun to change to support open data throughout the research data lifecycle. Our panel will discuss open data practices and challenges with implementing the necessary changes for all publications to have data and derived products preserved in an appropriate repository with adequate metadata.

AGU Data Fair: Data Planning <https://agu.confex.com/agu/os18/meetingapp.cgi/Session/36406>
Wednesday, 14 February
12:45 PM – 1:45 PM
Oregon Convention Center – E141-E142
Research data, no matter if it is small or large scale, requires planning for how it is secured, managed, transformed, backed-up, monitored for compliance with disclosure agreements, licensing, use agreements, sharing, curation, and long term preservation. Researchers have access to different tools and environments to assist with planning and implementation. Commonly researchers are unaware of the requirements that result in risk to their institution and the research itself. The panel will discuss the varied needs and best practices to plan for research data, suggestions for tools, and resources available to researchers in navigating the complex nature of data.

AGU Data Fair: Data Capacity Building – Equipping the Researcher with Tools that add and maintain the value of data throughout the Research Data Lifecycle. <https://agu.confex.com/agu/os18/meetingapp.cgi/Session/36411>
Thursday, 15 February
12:45 PM – 1:45 PM
Oregon Convention Center – E141-E142
Researchers commonly use multiple platforms and tools to acquire, create, manage, transform, and analyze data. During the months and years of research, the information about that data when it was acquired or created tends to be lost or misplaced making it hard to populate necessary metadata information when data is submitted for preservation. The panel will discuss the challenges the researcher faces and how methods for managing data are currently available or are expected in the future that will help the researcher build value and capacity in the research data lifecycle.
