Dear Stewardship Committee (cc Enabling FAIR SC, RO Citation Cluster),

You may recall that last summer we agreed that is was time to review and update the ESIP Data Citation Guidelines. A sub-group of the committee spun off into a new cluster and did just that. This was prompted in part by the new common author guidelines agreed by many Earth science publishers<http://www.copdess.org/enabling-fair-data-project/author-guidelines/>, which reference the ESIP Guidelines.

Thanks to a group of committed people who like to get into the details, we now have a substantially revised, modernized, and generally improved document. We welcome your comments and suggestions.

The primary document is here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DjM8SBJOOSSwANoOmW6arN-KiwAv1895K0tZkLU5sxs/edit?usp=sharing

Along with an associated table that maps the citation concepts to several common metadata dialects:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XCo1eVxyLarCjQsn2bkHvNd9zDFC3RLj-6zAZ1Fu6Jg/edit?usp=sharing

Please comment on or make suggestions to the documents directly before EOB, 15 March.

This will also be a topic for any questions or discussion on the next ESIP data stewardship call, 7 March, 14:00 Eastern.

After this review period, we will make any necessary revisions and then submit the document to the ESIP assembly for endorsement.

Thanks again to all those who contributed. Be sure to put your name and ORCID in the acknowledgments.

I look forward to your feedback.

cheers,

-m.
