Hi data stewards,

For those that don't know me, I'm Andrea Thomer -- I'm a professor at the
University of Michigan School of Information, and I conduct research on
data curation and scientific data practices.

I'm currently working on a project studying database and data collection
migration. I'm hoping to identify common patterns, processes, and
roadblocks to this work, and to start working toward best practices to
support database and platform migration.

So far I've done some deep dives into database migration in natural history
museums
<https://asistdl.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/pra2.2018.14505501055>
and archives -- but I'd really like to talk to some folks doing this work
in the earth science community. So if you a) work with earth science data
or sample collections, b) have experience planning for or navigating
database migration, and c) are willing to talk to me about this experience
please let me know! I'm happy to answer any questions about what
participation in this project would entail off-list.

Thanks,

--
