GD072 UI Engineer
This position is for a User Interface (UI) Engineer supporting the GES DISC (Goddard Earth Sciences, Data and Information Services Center) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt Maryland.  This candidate should be interested in both data analytics and Earth sciences, with a background in each.  We seek a highly motivated individual with 1-4 years of experience developing web based applications using Open Source Technologies preferably geared toward the scientific data visualization and data analytics.

Giovanni (http://giovanni.gsfc.nasa.gov/giovanni/) is an online data exploration and analysis tool for Earth Science data aimed at users interested in analyzing and sharing Earth Science data using Web 2.0 technologies.  We are currently looking for a UI Engineer to work with a team of UI developers, service developers and Earth Science domain experts.  The UI Engineer needs to have a broad range of programming skills with strong understanding of HTML5, WebGL, software development concepts, such as object oriented design/programming and event driven programming in JavaScript. The candidate should bring strong vision and a penchant for applying new technologies for Web applications.

Requirements:

 *   BS in Computer sciences (MS desirable) or related field with 1-4 years experience
 *   1+ years of hands-on experience in developing user interfaces and web applications using client side technologies
 *   Expertise in HTML5, WebGL, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX and event driven programming
 *   Expertise in client side data driven visualization and responsive web design
 *   Experience using one or more of JavaScript libraries such as YUI, jQuery, Prototype
 *   Experience with using Open Source Technologies
 *   Experience with using web services (REST or SOAP). General knowledge of human factors and usability issues
 *   Experience in automated testing of web user interfaces
 *   Work well in an agile environment with inter-disciplinary teams
 *   Experience leading small tasks in all phases of software development life cycle
 *   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in working with internal and external customers
 *   US Citizenship or Permanent Residency

Desired:

 *   MS computer sciences
 *   Experience in visualization frameworks such as D3
 *   Knowledge of data analytics
 *   Experience in a civilian government contracting environment

 *   Experience in Java
