Applied Computing and Geosciences - Special Issue on 'Geoscience ontologies and knowledge graphs'

  *   Submissions close on 31 May 2023

Geoscience ontologies and knowledge graphs are active research topics in geoinformatics. In past decades, many vocabularies, schemas, ontologies, and knowledge graphs have been made in the geosciences, and many have contributed to successful applications in the cyberinfrastructure to underpin geoscience research. Recently, there have also been reflective discussions that the integration of primary knowledge in machine learning will contribute to a better understanding and increased explainability of big data analytical techniques. As a result, knowledge infusion is becoming a new topic of interest in machine learning and data science. This special issue on “Geoscience ontologies and knowledge graphs” invites contributions that present advances in building and applying ontologies or knowledge graphs in any field of geoscience. The topics may include but are not limited to:

1) New ontologies or knowledge graphs;

2) Innovative applications of ontologies or knowledge graphs;

3) Knowledge-infused machine learning models, such as those in remote sensing, text mining, and integrated data analysis;

4) Successful applications of knowledge-fused models in data analysis to address real-world needs;

5) Explainable artificial intelligence underpinned by ontologies or knowledge graphs to support open science;

6) Perspectives on geoscience artificial intelligence and the role of ontologies and knowledge graphs.

Publication cost will be waived for all articles accepted to publish in this special issue.

The journal’s submission platform Editorial Manager: https://www.editorialmanager.com/acags/default.aspx<https://www.editorialmanager.com/RINGPS/default.aspx> is available for receiving submissions to this Special Issue from 1 October 2022.
