[esip-semantictech] Next ESIP Semantic Technologies Budget

Dear all:

I have taken a pass at writing up the idea of producing a roadmap for ESIP in the S&T committee that would investigate and plan what it will take for ESIP to support an ontology repository, what are the limitations, the scope, etc…

As the budget is a collaborative and non-competitive activity, I share this here for your comments.

Please have a look and amend as you see fit. There are missing areas in leveraged activities and collaborators. For instance I would imagine this to be an activity that John and others may be interested in. So there are details to fill in.

Please use track changes.

Hi All - Sorry for the double email, one other question came in about whether the budget was competitive or collaborative. This should be a collaborative process to fund things that will support the group and the group should generally agree on the budget before it goes to the Finance committee. From everything I've read on the thread, it sounds like that is what's going on.

Hi Lewis -

One other quick note - Since this is the first year that the Semantic Web group has been a committee, it hasn't had a budget.

Budget instruction can be found here: http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Federation_Documents

Hi Tom,
At the last meeting, someone asked where last years budget wasŠ no one
seemed to know.
Do you know where it is so some of us new comers can get a peek into
format and content?
Off the top of my head, some things which were mentioned were
 * there may be nothing wrong with resubmitting/repurposing last years
budget req.
 * the Semantic Ontology Implementation/COR/whatever needs to be factored
into the budget
 * Bhaskar spoke very encouragingly about putting some kind of
paper/article/journal entry together representing the direction of
semantics within the Earth Sciences. Maybe we could request some budget
resources to drive this work on?
Thanks
Thanks
