[esip-semantictech] Ontology portal use cases

Hi John:

I hope that you have a great vacation. I am on vacation as well, and won't be able to participate in this Tuesday's upcoming teleconferenceI. I hate to bother you but I was wondering about Bioportal old use cases. There must have been use cases developed for Bioportal at some point in its history.

Would there be anyone in your team there who would know where they are and could point us to them? It would be great if you could put me in touch with this person. There is no point in re-inventing the wheel if these are useful.

Thanks
Line

Hi Michael,

I hope this won't sound selfish, but being on (no-work) vacation for 3 weeks, I really meant to offer them as-is, in case they were useful. I won't be hurt if they aren't used, just wanted to make sure you knew about them.

Best,

John

Great! Thanks John. It is nice that these are written from a user's standpoint, as Beth requested. Please reconcile these with ones that are already on our wiki, add the ones that are not already present, and skip the ones that are irrelevant (e.g., "clearinghouse").

Cheers,
Mike

As I promised, here are some use cases from way back.

Happy Friday, Semantic Webbies. In an effort to kick-start the evaluation of our candidate ontology portals, I'd like to engage you all in fleshing out the use cases on our wiki. We've got several good use cases, which can be found here<https://esipfed.github.io/stc/UseCases/STCUseCasesAndRequirements.html#UseCases>, but they need more details if they're going to provide guidance for our evaluation. What we'd like to do is add some additional information to the use cases, including user profiles (who/what type of user would be using the portal in they way described), a workflow for the use case that describes briefly how the user would interact with the portal, and a list of technical requirements implied by the use case. To give you an idea of what we're after, I've beefed up one of the use cases, submitted by Lewis McGibbney, with the requested information. See the attached document. I'd like to similarly beef up the other use cases, and also encourage people who have other use cases in mind to write them up and put them on the wiki. We will plan to go over whatever use cases we have at our meeting next Tuesday and maybe even try to rank them in terms of importance, to help in the evaluation process. If you could take a look at the use cases between now and next Tuesday, and maybe think about what additional information should be included in them, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! Talk to you all next week.
