Hi all,

Hope this finds you well

For those attending SciDataCon remotely or in person next week you may be interested in joining this session. We have a focused presentation 😀

Session Title: Scientific Vocabularies: needs, status, validity, governance and sustainability
https://www.scidatacon.org/IDW-2022/sessions/461/
Governance and Maintenance considerations for FAIR vocabularies –Australian Soil Domain use case

Apologies to anyone who has seen this already but TomKat Ranch is holding a soil data conference and hackathon using the MODUS vocabulary that folks might be interested in!

I have a conflict so won’t be attending but this looks like it is an interesting approach. If anyone does go I would please give us a report out!

Best,

-Kathe

Subject: ONLINE EVENT - “Fixing the Soil Health Tech Stack” August 23rd - 24th

Dear Friends,

A robust soil sampling effort is currently taking place at TomKat Ranch. In addition to our ongoing monitoring with Point Blue Conservation Science’s Rangeland Monitoring Network, thousands of new samples are being collected by The Soil Health Inventory Project. These samples will be analyzed for soil carbon percentage and bulk density by several soil labs and will create a robust data layer across multiple pastures where TomKat has applied different regenerative treatment regimes.

This soil data will provide the foundation of data to be used in the Soil Data Hackathon, which will run in parallel with a two-day virtual conference called Fixing the Soil Health Stack on Tuesday, August 23rd - Wednesday, August 24th. These events are hosted by The Farm Foundation in partnership with The Soil Health Institute, The Mixing Bowl, Purdue Open Ag Technology & Systems Center (OATS), Semios, and the Soil Health Inventory Project.

Designed to fast-track meaningful progress toward easing the movement of soil data between samplers, analysts, and those taking action in the field—bridging soil data interoperability, calibration, and standardization—Fixing the Soil Health Tech Stack is comprised of three interwoven activities:

  1. The Soil Sampling Campaign
  2. The Soil Data Hackathon
  3. The “Fixing the Soil Health Tech Stack” Virtual Conference

Please join us and many others to lend your knowledge and experience to solving gaps that exist in harmonizing soil data collection and analysis. If you know others in your network who may be interested, please forward this invitation along!
