Dear all,

I want to let you know that I will start next year a new job at DLR and will leave my function as team leader for the WDC-RSAT.
My colleague, Julian Meyer-Arnek, is by now in charge of the WDC-RSAT.
It was a pleasure to work with you and I wish you a successful continuation.

Could you please remove my e-mail address from the mailing list? Thank you.

Best regards,

Séverine Bernonville

Ok, I touched up the 2013 AQWG Agenda<http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Air_Quality_Breakout,_ESIP_2013_Winter_Meeting> page.. and added an item on the AQ Data Network.

So on the wiki page, people can add their agenda items and we all can see the developing state of the agenda.

Looks like ww will have a good session,

Best
Rudy

Hi Ann, All -

I've added your note to the AQ ESIP wiki workspace<http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Air_Quality_Breakout,_ESIP_2012_Winter_Meeting>, hopefully that's ok. Everyone can make changes there as needed.

Best-
Erin

Thanks to everyone who responded. It sounds like there is enough interest in this to submit the session proposal and work out a more detailed agenda as the meeting approaches.

Based on having 2 1.5 hour sessions, I'd like to propose using the first session for short overview presentations that would summarize the community developments and the second as a work session to focus on specific developments, tutorials or use cases.

For the first session could we have 15 minute presentations on the current state of data services from Juelich, DataFed, ECCAD, NOAA and any others. Additional overview topics? I would be interested in hearing about issues faced by modelers in accessing data services.

For the second a couple of potential topics:

- Use cases for the existing services

- Discussion of technologies for access to large data for various types of post-processing web services. The IRODS group may be presenting at ESIP as well.

- How to proceed with metadata data developments started in Dublin.

- Discussion of the next versions of WCS and DAP.

Any other thoughts on how we should structure this session and topics to include?

-Ann

Hi All -

I think the session looks great as well. Ann, thanks for starting the
planning. It seems like 3 hrs total (2 1.5 hr blocks) for this would be
appropriate. Thoughts?

Here is the link for registration to the ESIP meeting for both in person
and remote: https://www.regonline.com/esipfederationwintermeeting2013 For
planning, registration rates for in-person attendees increase Dec. 1.

Looking forward to a productive session -
E

Hi Ann -

This draft agenda is very timely. I think a session at the ESIP winter
meeting would be essential for continuing to move the process forward, and
some of the CMAS Center staff would be interested in attending by webinar
if not in person. Along with the issues you have listed I suggest including
discussion of technologies for access to large data for various types of
post-processing web services. This was raised during the CMAS conference
by the RSIG developers, who are under increasing pressure to provide access
to currently archived CMAQ output. Users need to have more efficient access
to publicly available model data for subsetting and comparison with
observations, and at a minimum, to know the size limitations and
implications for the type of analyses they want to do and how long it may
take.

Thanks -
Uma

Subject: Proposal for AQ COP session at ESIP winter meeting

If there is interest from the community, I would like to propose a session
at the winter ESIP meeting to continue the development of interoperability
technologies in support of atmospheric composition research. Please
consider this a draft which will be modified to meet the needs of the
community.

Title:
The State and Future of Interoperability for Atmospheric Composition
Research

Abstract/Agenda:
Work by the GEO AQ CoP, http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/GEO_AQ_CoP,
toward data interoperability has resulted in growing support and demand
for data access while at the same time identifying gaps in the supporting
technologies and standards. The purpose of this session will be to assess
current interoperability efforts, identify gaps and recommend next steps to
improve data integration.

Agenda
- Briefly summarize and assess existing technologies and standards: OGC,
NetCDF, Metadata, Metadata catalogs.
- Identify technology gaps: model integration, point data representation,
adoption of community standards, and methods for achieving standards.
- Continue the metadata discussion started at the Dublin meeting,
http://wiki.esipfed.org/index.php/Air_Quality_Metadata_Workshop_Dublin_2012
,
and move toward improving community support of metadata standards.
- Discussion of technology advancements and adoption such as WCS 2.0,
DAP4 and ISO 19115-*.
- Identify community priorities for development.

Outcomes from the session:
- Recommendations for development and adoption of integration technologies.
- A white paper summarizing issues and recommendations for possible action
by the community at the summer ESIP meeting.

Is this of interest to you and how would you most benefit from such a
session? I haven't attended one of these before, so any information
about the scope and agenda expectations is appreciated. The deadline
for proposals is Friday, November 9.

-Ann
