Hi BESSIG,
We had a great meeting yesterday at Asher! The turn out was great and
there were many ideas and a lot of enthusiasm about moving forward.
I particularly want to call out the people who volunteered to do a variety
of tasks of varying amounts of work: Beth, Soren, Lynn, Kate, Janine, and
Don's wife Claudia (even though she wasn't actually there), you guys rock!
And, thank you again, to Linda for setting up the meeting venue (even
though she was stuck in DC yesterday). (Note: all women. Just sayin'.)
The high level action items:
- Beth will draft a proposal for a session at either SciDataCon or RDA
highlighting BESSIG members and their data-relevant international project
associations (or something like that), which we can discuss further when
it's available. (The deadline for SciDataCon proposals is 2/14. RDA
planning for the Denver plenary does not seem to have started. We'll talk
further about where to submit.)
- We're moving towards being able to manage some money. Talk with Erin,
get a bank account set up via ESIP (we hope). Beth has volunteered to be
Treasurer. We're aiming towards gathering enough money to reserve Shine
for 6 - 12 months.
- Soren to revive the website.
- Lynn to create a Google survey regarding BESSIG scope (beyond Earth and
Space Science?) and thoughts about potential name changes.
- Claudia to do a quick and dirty logo design, to be used for a flyer or a
sticker.
- In the meantime, the February meeting will likely be at Alfalfa's,
pending further information from Kate about Alfalfa's venue.
I am so excited by the ideas, enthusiasm and support everyone brought to
the meeting, as well as the people who contacted me personally. Thank you
to everyone who has volunteered and/or shown interest and support! I'm
very excited to think about what we could become in 2016. Stay tuned!
Anne
