Hi BESSIG,

Happy New Year!

We're having a BYOF (Bring Your Own Food) meeting on next Monday, 1/25, at
Asher Brewing in Gunbarrel. Many thanks to Linda Rowan for helping to
organize this meeting! The coordinates:

Monday, 1/25, 4:30 - 6:00 PM
Asher Brewing
4699 Nautilus Court, Suite 104
Boulder, Colorado 80301

No presentation is planned, but we do have topics for discussion:

- International Data Week in September: What's going on in and around it?
What, if anything, would we like to do regarding it? Carpooling? A get
together in Denver? Distribute a flyer about ourselves?

- BESSIG 2.0: Moving the BESSIG forward via funding and donations. If you
have cycles to donate to managing a small bank account and/or approaching
organizations like Google for funding, let's talk! A little bit of
funding could provide us a good, consistent venue. For example, we could
rent Shine in Boulder (a private room with AV equipment and full f&b
service) from 4:00 - 6:00 for $175, or $2100/year. I believe we can set
up a bank account through ESIP. (Erin, will you comment further on that?)
I have energy for setting up infrastructure for that organizational
structure, if there are people out there who are willing to help manage it
on an ongoing basis. Or, other ideas for evolving?

- Would people be willing to donate a small amount each year to help
provide that venue? If everyone on the email list gave $20/year we'd have
enough to reserve that room once per month.

- A potential name change: There is some discussion about changing the
AGU ESSI focus group name to include 'data'. (This after, among other
things, it became apparent that members from other AGU sections did not
know what ESSI is about.) A similar change may be warranted for our name.

- Is anyone interested in designing a flyer or sticker or something about
our group? We may be able to get printing services donated.

If you have any other relevant ideas, please come and bring them! Bring
a snack, or not. Probably need to stick to finger food. I'll bring paper
plates, paper napkins, and some olives. There is pizza nearby that can be
ordered in, so we can take a pizza head count if that interests anyone.

If you have ideas but you can't make it, drop a note to me or the list.

Thanks for thinking about this! Hope to see you next Monday!

Anne
