[Bessig] informal BESSIG meetup for software discussions?

Erin,
Are you saying ESIP would provide financial support, not just a bank account?

Anne - Thinking about this a bit more. If BESSIG was under the umbrella of ESIP as a local cluster, ESIP-Boulder, there wouldn't be an issue in supporting and providing the financial backbone. The Drupal WG, for instance, is going after sponsorship to support Drupal-specific activities and we are managing funds.
The big question to you and the group is would you want to rebrand to be ESIP-Boulder instead of BESSIG?
Happy to talk more -
Erin

Thanks, Dan. I have not heard that dollar amount. Nor have I set up a PayPal account. I guess the question is, who owns the account? Is that any different than having a bank account?
I would like to see some kind of legal entity would lend legitimacy and allow us to approach businesses like Google and Twitter for support.

Becoming a non-profit is tedious but not difficult. I've gone through the process several times. But it costs about $750. Could we just use something like PayPal to handle our transactions?

Hi all,
Sorry to be late to the party. I'm up for Mon, 6/6, or Tue, 6/7. Let me know.
Regarding Alfalfa's – I'll take this opportunity to provide a status report to whole email list.
As Soren said, Alfalfa's is spacious, quiet, comfortable, and the wifi works, which offers a lot. The price is right if you want something that's free. It could be great for 'special interest' meetings, like the topic in this thread.
I was moderately disappointed in the venue for our monthly presentations because: one must bring one's own food and drink, it must be purchased from Alfalfa's, no alcohol is allowed, and parking is a somewhat of a barrier. There may be a limit regarding how many times per month one group can reserve the space.
Our meetings were best attended when it was easy to get food and beverage service in a suitable location. As has been raised in the past, this is harder, if not impossible now, to achieve without some small budget. It certainly requires labor to go around begging for space, which consistently dries up. We need a better process. As we were denied an ESIP-hosted bank account, another disappointment, it seems the only route left for managing group money is to become a non-profit. I am motivated to pursue that and appreciate the support I've heard for doing so.
In the mean time, I do have several speakers lined up, so I will probably just schedule Alfalfa's until we can get a bank account in place. I have topics for June, July, and August. Please stay tuned.
Thanks, all, for hanging in with the BESSIG!
Anne

I have a slight preference for Tuesday. But it's only slight. Monday and Thursday are also fine.

That week, outside of Wed (July 8), works for me. Any preferences for Monday, Tuesday or Thursday?

Hi Soren,
I'm also interested in this discussion. I'm available the week of June 6, but not the week of May 30, or the week of June 13.

The St Julien is fine by me. Sometime early June?
Alfalfas worked well. They are serious about the time limit (the band after us wanted their whole two hours) but it was quiet and the wifi worked.
Cheers,

I'm interested. How about meeting in the St. Julien. If we go at 4PM, it shouldn't be loud yet. They have a side-room that holds 25.
I didn't make it to the meeting at Alfalfas. Did that not work out well?

Ah, thanks Ruth, folks had expressed an interest in a more casual get-together, early evening, possibly drinks, comfy seats but not so loud so we could have a conversation. I just naturally assumed we'd all want to talk code ;)?

Hi Soren,
I am interested; but don’t have ready access to a quiet place for discussion unless it is during the work day (I am sure I could schedule an UCAR conference room).

Hello, BESSIG,
We've been talking about software assessment quite a lot this spring (don't run away yet!) and I was wondering if folks had an interest in an informal gathering in the next few weeks - I have questions about the larger reusability/readiness models as we look at different aspects of code maturity, project maturity and how we manage those within grant cycles.
Let us know (and also if there are opinions on a reasonably quiet place for conversation)?
Cheers,
Soren
