TITLE: Bringing Earth Science and the Environment Home
SPEAKER: Dave Jones, President & CEO, StormCenter Communications, Inc.,
President of the Federation of Earth Science Information Partners, and
Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Earth Science (A 501 (c) 3
corporation)

A revolution has begun in public communications about earth science and
environmental issues, and Dave Jones is leading the way with an
innovative business approach to selling the value of this type of
information. Jones founded StormCenter Communications with the vision
of developing products and services that make earth science information
critical to the decision maker and to the public. By partnering with
NASA and other government agencies, StormCenter is elevating the
relevance of earth science information in television to the point that
public awareness is increasing and people are listening. StormCenter
recently launched a new science interface on watersheds with NBC4 in
Washington, D.C., and is expanding that effort to include information on
forests and coasts. StormCenter is also leading the effort to establish
the next generation of interactive Weather Almanacs to be distributed
throughout the nation via local television markets. This interactive CD
has become a public information gateway to information about the earth,
and it involves television stations and sponsors as partners in
disseminating critical earth science information. Much of this is being
done by leveraging existing NASA projects through the Federation of
Earth Science Information Partners. Jones will talk about how NASA can
take advantage of this opportunity and will show some examples of what
is currently working well in the marketplace. He will also discuss how
NASA can address the needs of the media in this changing marketplace.

Prior to founding StormCenter Communications, Inc., in January 2001
(www.stormcenter.com <http://www.stormcenter.com/> ), Dave Jones was
the weekend meteorologist at NBC4 WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., where he
was principal investigator on three separate NASA cooperative
agreements. Jones also appeared on the Today Show in New York several
times as well as on CNBC in Asia and Europe. Jones has also worked for
a major weather data provider as their major account manager and user
interface designer for weather workstations currently in use today in
many television stations nationwide.
